NEVI was founded by 28 environmentally conscious professionals, led by Bijaya Man Sherchan, Ashok Raj Pandey, Kiran Joshi, Bijaya Krishna Shrestha, Lobsang Lama and others to promote self-reliance, reduce pollution, and enhance public transportation. The company acquired the 7 Safa Tempos innovated and manufactured by GRI, improved the design and added 8 more, and launched a first demonstration fleet of 15 vehicles, pioneering a sustainable urban mobility in Nepal. NEVI was the first private sector company to start electric three-wheelers in Nepal. NEVI at its peak manufactured over 350 Safa Tempos in-house. NEVI had lobbied along with other vehicle owners and successfully extended the lifespan of Safa Tempos from 20 years to 30 years, ensuring ongoing contributions to eco-friendly transportation. Now moving forward to bring new models of Safa Tempos and Lithium batteries.

Tracing NEVI's origins: From battling Kathmandu's smog crisis to revolutionizing urban transport with the iconic SAFA Tempos
During the early 1990s, Kathmandu, once revered as Shangri-La, faced a severe environmental crisis, enveloped in smog and the acrid stench of diesel emissions. Kathmandu faced severe air pollution, primarily due to diesel-powered Vikram tempos. These three-wheelers emitted visible black smoke and contributed disproportionately to urban pollution. The idea of electric three-wheelers originated during a delegation visit in 1990 by Kathmandu's municipality to its sister city, Eugene, Oregon, USA....
A journey of innovation and sustainability, highlighting the impact of SAFA Tempos and NEVI‘s key milestones.

Establishment of NEVI and purchase of Tempos assembled by Global Resources Institute.
GRI tested 7 prototype electric tempos in Kathmandu as part of an Electric Transportation Program. Inspired by this initiative, a group of Nepalese engineers and entrepreneurs took over the revolutionary's Safa Tempo, a robust electric three-wheeler. This groundbreaking effort brought to the establishment of Nepal Electric Vehicle Industry (NEVI) and thus started it's role for a sustainable eco-friendly urban mobility in Nepal.

Improvement in design and manufactured new Safa Tempos . First demonstration of charging station and the first fleet operation.
Nevi manufactured 8 more three-wheelers with improvement in design and demonstrated the first Charging Station at Lazimpat, Kathmandu. The first fleet operation with 15 Safa Tempos on the route from Baluwatar, Kathmandu to Patan Durbar Square, Lalitpur. Nevi's initiative demonstrated the potential of electric vehicles to reduce pollution and reliance on fossil fuel.
Success of Safa Tempo as an eco-friendly urban mobility for Public service.
650 SAFA Tempos in operation within Kathmandu Valley, of which more than 360 manufactured by NEVI. After the testing period, proved that the Public Urban transportation was a success. Safa Tempo represents a pioneering effort in introducing electric public transportation in South Asia.
Look out for a new battery and trial of GEL batteries.
Managing Director Lobsang Lama visited China along with a trade delegation to attend the 2nd China south & southeast Asia investment and trade fair, Hangzhou and visited battery manufacturers. New GEL batteries were tried and 336 GEL batteries were imported. In 2020 due to the pandemic there was a slump in the sales of batteries.
Started trial of LiFePO4 battery with BMS in place of lead acid battery.
Managing Director Lobsang Lama, visited several trade fairs and learned about Lithium battery. He innovated the large size single pack LFP battery 72V300AH.
Formal change of name from NEVI to Nepal Electric Vehicle Industry Research and Innovation Pvt. Ltd.
Lobsang Lama formally takes over NEVI as Chairman and Managing Director and slight change of name to Nepal Electric Vehicle Industry Research and Innovation Pvt. Ltd.
Learning about LiFePO4 batteries
23 pieces of Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries have been imported. The lithium batteries has a warranty of 3 years and to completely understand the performance it take many years. During this period trail from various battery manufacturers had to be done. We want a secured and the best performance battery.
Samples of new Safa Tempos
New Safa Tempos have been sampled with a new design look and better features.
